After a week or so of staring at the novelty of the seed, I decided it was time to pry it open. If you take the "cap" of the fruit off, the fruit opens rather easily from the top and can be split. The fruit usually contains three viable seeds, although I have seen smaller fruit containing two and even one. Another few pictures show the process of separating the three seeds from the one fruit.

Notice that I use latex dipped gloves for this process. The entire fruit is like a large, fibrous, rotten mango, and easily attracts fruit flies. After the three are separated, you will want to remove as much excess fiber from the seed as possible, but this is not so much fun with mush and fiber and slippery hands.
